RODGERS JOINS LA

Robbie Rogers, who openly admitted in his blog a few weeks ago that he was gay, has been training with LA Galaxy for the last few sessions. LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan has said that it is great to have him around the team and he would be extremely happy with the club went out and signed him. Rogers went into retirement immediately after his announcement. He has not been in football for the last two months, but he appeared to be relaxed along with his teammates at LA Galaxy’s training session. He is currently contracted with Chicago Fire who took him during the off-season.

LA Galaxy need to work hard in order to bring Rodgers up to speed, as he has not played the game for the last four months. He has represented Leeds united and Stevenage in a career that saw him grace English football as well. However, he has not played a game since leaving Leeds United four months ago by mutual consent. This was followed by the open revelation about his sexuality, which prompted a huge debate. LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena has said that he has been looking fitter and sharper than ever before, which is good considering that he has spent a considerable amount of time away from the game.

“It was fun to play with him. He’s been out awhile, so it’s going to take him a while to get back into it, and he would admit that, but hopefully he does well. My personal hope is that we’ll sign him and that they can find out a way to work a trade with Chicago. I think beyond the immediate soccer part, I think there’s much bigger positive consequences that can come from that, and we’re all hopeful that he’ll get fit and play well and that Bruce [Arena] wants to sign him,” said Donovan.
