Landon Donovan
Landon Timothy Donovan, or Landon Donovan as he is popularly known, is an American football player who currently represents Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy. He is recognised as one of the finest footballers from the United States of his generation. He can play in various positions across the front three: as a striker, in the hole, and on either wings. Landon Donovan was not part of any football club during the early stages of his career. It allowed the freedom to move to German side Bayern Leverkusen in 1999. He signed a six-year contract with the German side, but was loaned back immediately to Major League Soccer side San Jose earthquakes.
Landon Donovan complained about the fact that he could not settle in another foreign country, as the main reason for returning back to his homeland. His return to the United States was accompanied by the huge amount of success that he experience with San Jose earthquakes. He won the Championships in both 2001 and 2003 seasons, while scoring plenty of goals in the process. To be more precise, Landon Donovan scored 42 goals in total and also contributed by the way of 35 assists. This made him one of the most high profile players in the Major League Soccer.
The incredible three years culminated in the 2004 award where Landon Donovan was named as the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year. This was a second consecutive year of winning the award. He returned to Bayern Leverkusen following the end of this loan spell, but soon stated that he would be interested in returning to the United States. In the end, Landon Donovan transfer from the German side to Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy in 2005.
It proved to be the breakthrough move in his career, as he dominated the League with his incredible pace and skill. Donovan made an average of 25 appearances every season for LA Galaxy during his four-year stay at the club. He finally decided to end his time playing for the LA Galaxy at the end of the 2008 season, when he transferred to German side Bayern Munich.
However, yet again, the move to Europe did not go as well as he had planned. He had made a total of only six appearances for Bayern Munich before returning to LA Galaxy. He played for LA Galaxy for one more season before moving to Everton on a loan transfer. So far, it has been the most successful European experience that Landon Donovan has had. At Everton, Landon Donovan played only 10 matches and stayed there for six months. However, during this time he had developed a great fan following for his incredible performances, which again gave two goals for the striker.
Landon Donovan returned to LA Galaxy after the end of his loan spell. He now continues to the present the United States national team ever since he made his debut in 2000. So far, he has made 136 appearances and ranks as one of the all-time greats for United States soccer.
